SHS is seeking excellent candidates for a middle school Math teacher for the 2018-2019 academic year. This position is full-time, teaching in the classroom and participating in the Sacred Heart community. Requirements include a BA degree with post-graduate work in Mathematics or other relevant field and documented experience as a lead teacher. A Master's degree in Mathematics and/or a teaching credential are strongly preferred.
Successful candidates will be able to teach a broad range of middle school Math including Geometry, Algebra and Pre-Algebra. Essential Functions • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests. • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations. • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students. • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students' progress. • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress, and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
Qualifications include but are not limited to: • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a teaching credential or demonstrated relevant experience establishing the same qualifications; candidates with Master's degree or post graduate work in subject matter are strongly preferred. • A minimum of three years of experience teaching in an independent or Catholic school environment preferred. • Strong teaching ability at all levels in middle school (grades 6-8); enjoy working with children and adolescents. Specific experience and ability to teach courses in the following areas: Pre-Algebra, Algebra and Geometry. • Ability to collaborate with Learning Specialists to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. • Ability to work well with students and colleagues; willingness to be an active, enthusiastic, collaborative member of the SHS community
