In the middle school, the classroom experience is designed around an interdisciplinary teaming model. Candidates should possess the demonstrated ability to function as members of the interdisciplinary teams, lead advisory programs, integrate technology into the curriculum; interact with students in a variety of instructional settings and serve as an advocate for the middle school child.

A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Education or a background in the academic area for which applying.
Three (3) years of experience working in a middle school or a combination of education and experience.
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds; an understanding of the developmental needs of adolescents, sensitivity to each individual student’s needs; and ability to appreciate the variety of perspectives offered by individual viewpoints, disciplines and cultural understandings.
Strong knowledge of content area curriculum and instructional methodologies and the proven ability to work cooperatively within a grade level and team to modify and develop materials and assessments within an articulated curricular framework that is embedded in the school's mission, vision, and aims.
Experience with national math contests, such as the Continental Math League, American Mathematics Competition, and MATHCOUNTS preferred. Ability to serve as an advisor and/or coach for math contests preferred.
The ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, parents, and other members of the Punahou community.
The ability to use information competently in critical thinking, decision-making, and problem solving.
Knowledge about current research on teaching and learning for this age group and skilled in applying its findings to a variety of situations – particularly those that call upon students to access, evaluate, and use information from multiple sources in order to learn, to think, and to create and apply new knowledge.
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to respond effectively. Ability to communicate effectively in large and small group settings.
Knowledge of basic software applications and the ability to integrate technology effectively in teaching and learning.
Excellent organizational skills; the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and deadlines during a consistently fast paced, time-sensitive school year.
