Miami Country Day School seeks an enthusiastic and creative educator to fill the role of Upper School Math Teacher to begin August, 2018. Although a Math Teacher, this person must embrace STEM education and find ways to integrate an interdisciplinary curriculum between STEM and other domains. This person needs to be passionate about inquiry-based, student centered learning and be committed to combining the power of forward-thinking skill development with the purposeful integration of research-based learning. Candidates need to be dedicated to the challenge of thinking of education in an outside of the box way. We seek an Upper School Math Teacher who embodies our mission and who is passionate about working with our students and faculty. We are accredited by FKC, FCIS and SACS; active membership is maintained in SACAC, NACAC, NAIS, SAIS, CASE, CRIS, ERB, ALA, and the College Board.
To work with a collaborative team designing, organizing and implementing curriculum that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. The position involves teaching five sections of Upper School Math, being an academic advisor to a group of 12-14 upper school students, and being an active participant in the Science, Mathematics and Technology Department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND TASKS:
Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
Use relevant technology to support and differentiate
Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
Communicate student progress and needs regularly to students, colleagues and parents.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Observe and evaluate student performance and development, providing timely feedback to students and their parents.
Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
Participate in appropriate professional activities.
Perform supervisory duties as assigned.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
Desire to engage in continual professional growth and to be a member of a dynamic community of learners.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
BA or BS in Secondary Math Education or Math, and/or FL Math secondary state certification.
Completed or in-progress master’s degree in math or education is preferred but applicants with extensive, successful teaching experience are encouraged to apply.
Teaching experience, preferably in an Upper School, or relevant classroom experience is recommended.
Experience teaching in an Independent School preferred.
Proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish objectives of the school program.
Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
Must be able to use computer for communication and instruction.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
Work in a fast-paced, stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
May work long hours for extended periods of time.
Be able to 20 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Work in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat.
We are accepting applications from teachers experienced in high school mathematics such as Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, and Calculus (the exact teaching assignment will be based on the strengths of the applicant). This exciting opportunity will require a depth of mathematical knowledge, understanding of subject content, and a strong background in educational pedagogy. Miami Country Day School has a mathematics program centered on creative, integrated, non-scripted approaches to curriculum design and teaching.
