St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, a diverse and thriving PK3-12 independent school in Mississippi's capital city, invites applications for Upper School mathematics teachers.
Specifically, the Mathematics Department seeks colleagues who are professional, self-driven, team-oriented, life-long learners and who will contribute positively to the life of the school in various ways. Strong candidates will be passionate about teaching, well-versed in mathematics pedagogy, interested in cultivating students' problem-solving abilities, and able to teach a range of courses extending from Geometry through Calculus.
Exhibiting flexibility, patience, and a good sense of humor, strong candidates will collaborate liberally across grades, divisions, and departments and will communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents, employing appropriate technology in engaging courses where students learn mathematics through reading, writing, and experiential activities that provide a foundation for real-life application and multidisciplinary problem solving. Comfortable exploring and teaching different areas of mathematics, strong candidates will model the taking of appropriate risks for students, showing them that we often learn just as much from failure as we do from success. Strong candidates will cultivate mathematical thinking in students through student-centered, differentiated instruction and the use of thoughtfully designed, well-crafted assessments to help prepare them to function in an increasingly dynamic, interconnected, data-driven, technological world. A Bachelor’s degree in either mathematics, mathematics education, or one of the mathematical sciences is required, with a graduate degree strongly preferred.
The Middle and Upper Schools both are housed on the school’s Ridgeland campus, with roughly 650 students and 60 faculty. In addition to taking classes in science, math, English, history, world languages, and the arts, students are also engaged in athletics and the development of life skills. Students attend weekly Chapel services and periodic cultural enrichment assemblies, with their social and emotional development supported by an advisory program that matches each student with a teacher who builds a close relationship with that student.
These are full-time positions scheduled to begin in August 2018. As an Equal Opportunity Employer and institution explicitly committed to nurturing a diverse community, St. Andrew’s does not discriminate in violation of the law on the basis of the protected categories of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender, and sexual orientation), age, disability, genetic information, or military/veteran status in its employment practices or hiring practices. St. Andrew’s also offers a competitive benefits package, including extensive professional development and travel opportunities.
