The East Harlem School at Exodus House is seeking a dynamic middle school math teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. Applicants must have a strong academic foundation, as well as a commitment to teaching students from East Harlem and the surrounding community. Teachers implement a math curriculum appropriate to highly motivated middle-school students and assume one season of coaching responsibility within the school. Applicants who are able to coach soccer or lacrosse should note it in their application.
Planning daily lessons and regular assessments for math classes.
Keeping strong records that accurately track students' progress in math.
Tutoring students who are struggling in math class.
Providing enrichment and appropriately challenging materials for strong math students.
Planning for an covering weekly Math Lab periods designed to solidify math skills and mathematical thinking.
Assist with regular lunch coverages, study hall coverages, and sports periods
Qualified applicants should have:
A Bachelor of Arts/Science Degree
A deep knowledge of math and a passion for the subject
Experience working with middle school aged students.
Outstanding organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Interest in working with and on behalf of middle school students from low income families
Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply. A teaching certification is not required for this position.
