The TRIO Student Success Program Professional Math Tutor will work with TRIO Program participants. The TRIO Student Success Program serves Middlesex Community College students from low-income, first generation to college backgrounds and individuals with disabilities. The professional TRIO math tutor will provide individual instruction/support to students in the Preparation for College Math courses (Ramp Up) through college level math courses.
The Ramp Up math courses provide an individualized learning environment that utilizes a technology-based program to prepare for college level math.
Essential Job Functions
Tutor/assist students with math concepts and in specific course materials.
Integrate study and learning strategies to promote independent learning and encourage students to develop a systematic approach to studying that will serve them throughout their math sequence
Demonstrate with sample problems or examples
Maintain ongoing communication with students and the TRIO Student Success Program
Attend training sessions and meetings
Monitor students' progress with their math assignments and make appropriate referrals to TRIO Advisors and other college department
In conjunction with the Director and Lead TRIO Advisor develop and offer skill building workshops including academic support for summer bridge to college program participants
Provide progress reports, data reports, student contact analysis, provide information for other college and federal reports, as needed
Perform other duties consistent with the position of a Professional Tutor
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Bachelor's degree required
Experience tutoring and/or teaching math.
Ability to provide clear and concise explanations of mathematical concepts and procedures
Strong time management, organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work one on one with students of varying levels of math abilities.
Ability to work with diverse students, staff, and faculty.
Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation, varying physical and learning abilities.
Bachelor's degree in math or a related field.
Master's degree preferred.
Experience working with online learning software such as Pearson's My Math lab
Location: The primary location will be on the Lowell campus.
Salary: $28.29 per hour; eligible for earned paid time off in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Hours: Approximately 10-18 hours per week during the academic semesters (approximately 15 weeks each semester). Tutoring sessions may be scheduled between the hours of 8:00am to 2:00pm.
