Middle School (grades 7 & 8) Math/Science Teacher
A Maumee Valley teacher is a guide who orchestrates learning for students in ways that are
engaging, challenging and relevant. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative teacher who utilizes a range of pedagogical techniques in order to reach all learners. All learners will feel safe, respected and confident in the environment created by this candidate. We ask all of our teachers to do the following:
We seek a highly motivated, enthusiastic, engaging and experienced science and math teacher for middle school students. Applicants must have a clear understanding of the developmental and academic needs of middle school students and show a willingness to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Develop and implement engaging science and math lessons organized around experiences and real-life applications
Use highly interactive, multi-modal and developmentally appropriate teaching and classroom management practices
Act as an Advisor and mentor for students
Provide extra help to students individually or as a group
Demonstrate collegiality and an eagerness to collaborate with colleagues to enhance the instructional environment
Evaluate student performance
Maintain effective and efficient record keeping procedures
Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, administrators and other professionals on a regular basis
Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and parents
Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules and coordinating activities with other teachers
Use a variety of methods and approaches (including differentiation) to match curricular objectives to the range of student needs, and ensure equal opportunity for all students
Develop high expectations for all students, to deepen their knowledge and understanding and to maximize their achievement
Monitor student activities in classrooms and on the rest of the school's campus to ensure the welfare and safety of the students
Work with other members of the faculty, administration and staff on interdisciplinary opportunities at the school
Participate in continued professional growth
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Middle School
Skills and Characteristics:
The successful candidate for the position will possess the following skills and characteristics:
Deep understanding of the scientific method as well as science and math concepts
Understanding of the needs and development of middle school students
Competent use of technology to teach science and math
Energy and enthusiasm
Experience in inquiry based science and math education
Familiarity with the tools and methodologies of 21st century education
Strong mentoring and leadership abilities
Sense of humor
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Science and/or Math or Science and/or Math Education
Experience teaching science and/or math in middle school
