The Department of Mathematics at Texas A&M University - Commerce is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with specialization in math education to start in the Fall 2019 semester. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, conduct scholarly research, and provide service to the university and community. This is a full-time tenure track position with a teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. The annual 9 month salary is $60,000, USD.
Major/Essential Duties of Job:
Primary responsibilities of the position includes: 1) Teaching content courses for Texas elementary, middle school and secondary mathematics certification, graduate courses of math education in both face-to-face and online formats, and other graduate and undergraduate classes in both face-to-face and online formats; 2) advising of students; 3) Initiating and sustaining research in math education, particularly with regard to mathematics learning; publication of scholarly work; 4) maintaining effective, professional and collegial relations with faculty, students and alumni; 5) providing service to the Department, University, and the profession which includes maintaining a collaborative relationship with the Math/Science Teacher Preparation Program; 6) maintaining office hours (tutorials) on campus.

Required Education and Experience:
Doctoral degree in Mathematics Education with Masterâ™s degree in mathematics, or PhD in Mathematics with substantial preparation in mathematics education (e.g. dissertation in math education) before employment. Evidence of potential for success in university-level teaching and ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English. The successful candidate will demonstrate potential for scholarly activity and for generating external funding in mathematics education.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Expertise in mathematics teacher preparation and designing curriculum to address state and national standards for mathematics education. Demonstrated success in securing external funding. Experience with teaching on-line and distance learning.
Ph.D. in mathematics education
Public or private school K - 12 teaching experience
Some level of K-12 teaching certification
College or university teaching experience of content courses for elementary and middle school certification or secondary methods courses Evidence of teaching excellence Experience working with culturally diverse populations.
