AIM Academy is excited to announce the opening of an Upper School Math teaching position for the fall of 2019. AIM’s Upper School is an innovative and collaborative environment where teachers have smaller than usual caseloads so they can focus on the individual needs of students. Teaching faculty in the Upper School enjoy a good deal of autonomy in the material they teach as well as very well-developed support structures to employ key research-based practices for the instruction in numeracy, strategy, fluency, problem solving, and productive reasoning. Upper school math courses range from Algebra I through Calculus. Though candidates who are most experienced at one end of the math continuum will certainly be considered, we are looking for candidates who can be versatile in the courses they teach.
The Upper School Math and Science team is comprised of eight faculty who focus on Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science. This position will largely focus on Math though candidates with additional background in the Sciences should apply. The department is supported by a team of instructional leaders, speech language pathologists, and very knowledgeable administrators. An ideal candidate will have experience teaching Math to students with language-based learning differences like dyslexia and dysgraphia as well as working with students who may have processing or attention issues. The ideal candidate will also understand how to marry explicit instruction with a college preparatory scope and sequence. Those with specific degrees or training in our niche field are highly desirable, but that is not required. AIM’s Institute for Learning and Research will provide a myriad of opportunities for professional development prior to the opening of the school year.
