The master teacher should bring energy and curriculum development skills to the math department by being able to teach math effectively and passionately, particularly through a growth-mindset. Other responsibilities and necessary competencies include the following:
Demonstrating a passion for math and its real-world applications
Exhibiting excellent teaching skills that demonstrate best practice
Willingness and ability to teach all levels of middle school math through geometry
Teaching 5 classes, which may include varied levels
Understanding the development of middle-school students and possessing a passion for working with this age group
Connecting with students, challenging them, and shifting pedagogical practice to meet the needs of diverse learners
Working with grade-level colleagues to plan and coordinate all content, activities, and grading for each class; working with LS and US colleagues to create a vertical alignment
Advising 10-14 students and facilitating the “Lead from Here” curriculum; meeting with parents of advisees
Interacting effectively with parents, colleagues, and members of the leadership team
Participating in other aspects of the School community (i.e. athletics, committees)
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Math or Math Education; MA or MEd highly desirable; previous teaching experience in an independent school setting preferred.
