Old Trail School is seeking a Learning Specialist to serve on a comprehensive Support Services Team that includes a Director of Support Services (who is a School Psychologist), another School Psychologist, two Learning Specialists, a Speech & Language Pathologist and a School Nurse. We are seeking one Math Learning Specialist and one Literacy Learning Specialist to work with Kindergarten-Grade 8.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBIITIES:
Deliver supplemental instructional support to students struggling with math and/or executive function skills
Deliver supplemental instructional support to identified students who would benefit from enrichment opportunities in academic areas
Assist classroom teachers with the development and implementation of differentiated instructional approaches and assessments
Conduct annual screenings for math proficiency levels in all students
Monitor the delivery/implementation fidelity of the small-group instructional support provided by the Learning Specialists
The ideal candidate will have experience delivering small-group and/or one-on-one academic support to struggling students as well as to academically talented students. Knowledge of neurodevelopmental phenomena including language abilities, memory functions and executive functions is critical. The ideal candidate will be able to: assess student learning needs (remedial and enrichment); craft meaningful intervention plans; monitor the effectiveness of the plans; suggest instructional accommodations; and provide direct guidance to teachers in developing and facilitating the implementation of those accommodations.
