In 2011, we began our elementary school with a single kindergarten class and the idea that learning should be joyful, student driven, and inclusive. Over the years we have developed a strong commitment to curriculum that is project based and anti-biased. As such, we are seeking an experienced and passionate Math teacher to join our founding middle school team as we launch our first 7th grade class. This is a truly unique opportunity to work closely with our middle school director in shaping a brand new program with lots of room for professional growth.
In addition to developing and teaching 6th & 7th grade math and science in an integrated way, the person hired will also serve as an advisor and be an integral component of the school community.
We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following skills and qualities:
A commitment to working with middle school students and an enthusiasm for making real world connections through the fields of science and math
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred; academic program focus in math, science, and/or education-related fields
3 years experience teaching students in grades 6-8
Enthusiasm for the opportunities and challenges inherent in working with middle school students
A willingness to collaborate with others and continually inspire students to love learning
A commitment to social justice and anti-bias curriculum
A reflective practitioner in a state of constant professional growth and a willingness to share their craft with others
Experience working with children with special needs as some students have IEPs
An ability and willingness to differentiate instruction
Commitment to and knowledge of experiential and inquiry-based teaching and learning
A positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor
About The Co-op School
We are a progressive constructivist program that teaches to the individualities of every child and every unique classroom. The Co-op School models its curriculum based on these following beliefs:
Joyful learning lays the foundation for lifelong learning and critical thinking.
Creativity cannot exist without passion.
Children learn best when they are invested in finding out the answers to their questions and when learning is embedded in meaningful contexts, which makes learning fun and engaging.
It is important to us to educate the entire child on all levels: emotional, social, physical, and intellectual.
Students work as a group and think as individuals, expressing feelings and contributing ideas peacefully and respectfully.
Students will leave The Co-op School confident in their ability to effect change in the community and comfortable reflecting on ways to challenge and grow themselves. As creative problem solvers, each with unique viewpoints and learning styles, students will embrace the idea of a more equitable world. We strive to inspire passion and teach children to become protagonists in their own educational journey by fostering their innate sense of curiosity and creativity.
