MATH PROFESSIONAL LEARNING DESIGNER AND COACH , Comparative Media Studies/Writing (CMS/W)-MIT Teaching Systems Lab (TSL) , to work with K-12 educators to support math teacher learning through practice spaces. The Teaching Systems Lab develops "teacher practice spaces"--games and simulations that let teachers rehearse for and reflect upon important decisions in teaching. Will recruit--with support from the TSL directors--a cohort of fellows (third through eighth grade teachers, teacher leaders, and instructional coaches), co-design practice spaces, develop in-person and blended professional learning experiences, manage partnerships (schools, district offices, philanthropists, evaluation firms), and work with researchers to evaluate teacher learning experience and changes in practice. Responsibilities will include developing and facilitating professional learning experiences for math teachers and coaches, developing open-source curriculum materials, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of technologists and evaluators, mentoring students and interns, and supporting other lab projects as needed.
REQUIRED : B.A.; five years' experience teaching middle years' math (grades 3-8) and providing professional learning for teachers, especially in schools serving poverty-impacted communities; commitment to partnering with teachers and teacher leaders to address issues of equity in mathematics education; and experience managing and coordinating complex multi-stakeholder projects. Seek a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who is able to work well with cross-functional groups and has a demonstrated understanding of and commitment to equity and diversity.
