This position begins August 2019 and involves teaching five classes, as well as co-curricular activities, including student advising, as assigned by the division principal. development and implementation of all interdisciplinary mathematics courses for the Upper School (9th through 12th grades.)
Successful teachers at Bullis are energized by curriculum development and are grounded in current learning theory. Math teachers may teach a variety of courses including, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB & BC, and Vector and Linear Calculus. This position requires teaching sections of AP Statistics.
This position may also serve as the Mathematics Department Chair. The Department Chair is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Mathematics Department, including classroom and course assignments, monitoring the quality of instruction in departmental courses, formally observe and evaluate departmental teachers, attend department chair meetings, manage departmental budget and equipment and identify professional development opportunities for the Mathematics department. The Department Chair is also responsible for managing departmental curriculum, ensuring consistency with student grading across the department and interact with parents with departmental inquires and issues.
The position also requires collaboratively researching and crafting differentiated, engaging lessons for students with a range of learning abilities as well as providing daily substantive feedback that fosters student achievement. Candidates will utilize technology that efficiently enhances instruction.
The ideal candidate will have experience planning student-centered, innovative lessons in course-aligned teams and leading students in inquiry-based learning. The candidate will value interdisciplinary thinking and can expertly guide our students as they develop a deeper understanding of our interconnected world through the study of mathematics.
Qualified candidates should possess following education & experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics or related field (required)
Master’s Degree in Mathematics or related field (preferred)
Two to three years of teaching experience required
Five+ years of teaching experience preferred
Experience in secondary education preferred
Experience teaching AP level courses preferred
Experience teaching in a technology-rich environment
Flexible approach to learning, particularly regarding new technology systems and hardware
Detail-oriented, with the capacity to effectively and efficiently manage numerous small and large tasks
Proficiency with basic productivity and media software
Proficiency with Windows and Apple OS, Microsoft Office, cloud computing (Google Docs, etc.), and other productivity and media software
Working knowledge of technology systems, including networks and hardware management
Enjoy working in a cooperative, team-oriented environment
Teaching certificates are not required
