The Work Study Assistant, under supervision of a Certified Teacher, will assist Waller Independent School District with planning and facilitating collaborative tutoring sessions for primary & intermediate level students enrolled in reading & math courses. Tutors for Waller ISD are students who excel academically, have exceptional interpersonal skills, and are motivated by a desire to help others. This position is located off campus in Waller County.
Plan and facilitate tutoring sessions utilizing collaborative learning methodologies in one-on-one or group sessions
Assist students in the development of appropriate study skills
Develop teaching or training materials, such as handouts, study materials, or quizzes
Model appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty and students
Motivate and support students? achievement and success
Establish and maintain rapport with assigned student(s)
Serve as a role model for students receiving services
Foster an inclusive learning environment
Maintain consistent communication with supervisory staff
Attend mandatory tutor training meetings
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
Must be in academic good standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.5 GPA
At least one semester at PVAMU
Minimum earned grade of "B" in the courses to be tutoring
Availability to participate in training sessions
No prior experience necessary
For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least six (6) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
Must have reliable transportation
