The Coordinator, Study Centers and Math Support is a full-time, 11-month position that provides and promotes math and science learning strategies, resources, and interventions for students. This role coordinates and provides workshops, courses, tutoring services, and individual and small group instruction supporting math and science. This position is responsible for managing, facilitating and teaching Math Support courses, providing individual consultations to enhance students' learning strategies, and coordinating Math and Physics Study Centers operating at two locations, 6 days a week, up to 13 hours a day, supporting 25-30 student employees per day. Responsibilities include supervision of graduate and undergraduate student staff with emphasis on development, support and implementation of tutor training and advancement of professional competencies. This position is responsible for the supervision and assessment of key programmatic initiatives, partners and collaborates with colleges, departments, faculty and staff regarding the academic success and perseverance of students. This position is part of the ASC Math and Science Support team and reports to the Assistant Director.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree A minimum of 3 years of full-time, professional experience in higher education in stem-related fields with increasing responsibility in educational programming or student services.
Experience with college-level math instruction/teaching and/or curriculum development.
Ability to supervise, train, support and evaluate student employees.
Ability to develop student understanding of math learning strategies and academic success content.
Experience supporting, and being a member of a large team (adjunct instructors, student leaders).
Establishes rapport; builds and maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external audiences. Shows respect, compassion and empathy for others, even in difficult situations and builds an environment of trust.
Values and supports differences in others; ability to work with diverse populations including students with disabilities and/or first-generation students.
Strong communication (verbal & written), and presentation (teaching and coaching) skills. Ability to listen, analyze, and problem solve. Ability to convey complex information in accessible terms to diverse or multicultural audiences.
General understanding of the developmental needs of college students.
Ability to manage and maintain confidential and private information; uses confidential, sensitive and/or private records and information, protects information appropriately
Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgment.
Ability to interpret and apply policy. Strong time management and organization skills. Ability to balance and adapt to interruptions, multiple, changing and varied tasks.
Demonstrates, innovation, creativity, and professionalism.
Knowledge of existing, and comfort in learning new, university-supported technologies and software (advanced Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, note-keeping applications, and ability to navigate the student database).
Knowledge of Deaf culture, American Sign Language (ASL), or willingness to learn
Masters degree in Mathematics, Physics, or Statistics preferred.
Experience in planning and records management.
General knowledge of assessment practices and experience utilizing assessment data to inform practice.
