Friends Academy is a small, progressive EC-8 school of 250 students on the South Coast of Massachusetts. We are known for having a strong sense of community that balances robust academics, arts, social and emotional learning, and outdoor activities.
We are looking for a substitute math teacher for January 6, 2020 - February 5, 2020 to cover a parental leave. This role will include teaching four sections of Math to classes of 8-15 students, following set curriculum and materials. Other responsibilities include co-advising a group of 6th-grade students, and supervising a service-learning activity.
Middle School Math covers topics in geometry, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra I to build life-long problem-solving skills and a growth mindset towards math. We believe that understanding a problem is at least as important as knowing how to do it (why before how). We believe in-depth of content over breadth of content. We use math to connect to real-world problems. We are also growing STEAM education, project-based learning, and online tools such as IXL.
The ideal candidate would:
Love middle school students and learning
Serve as a role model for students
Promote responsible citizenship and respect for diversity and differences
Have a positive outlook on the world and opportunities for young people
Be dedicated to social-emotional learning and positive discipline practices
Collaborate with grade teams
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field as well as teaching experience
A passion for middle school, a sense of humor, positivity and warmth
Dedication to teaching and learning in a vigorous, progressive school community with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
We would love to hear from you! To apply, please email cover letter, resume, and contact information for three references to Susan Yao, Head of Middle School, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
