We are seeking a Middle School Math Learning Specialist. The ideal candidate enjoys inquiry and insights by a broad range of math learners, and is familiar with curricular innovations to enhance math learning beyond traditional methods as well as curricular scaffolds that support student learning. The Dalton Middle School includes Grades 4-8 and the Math Learning Specialist will report to the Director of Learning Support Services and function as a member of the Middle School faculty, specifically the MS Math Department. The Math Learning Specialist is responsible for supporting effective mathematics instruction in collaboration with the classroom teacher and working with students who need intervention support services or enrichment outside of class.
Collaborate with the MS Math teachers on differentiated teaching strategies and act as a resource for the MS Math Department regarding learning support structures.
Work individually or in small groups with targeted children who are identified by teachers and administrators.
Identify learning styles and recommend appropriate strategies for the teacher and student to implement.
Work within the classroom setting to support students. Co-teach certain math lessons with the math teacher to model differentiated strategies.
Communicate information regarding progress in math through rotational meetings with House Advisors, attend case conferences and guidance meetings as needed, write reports, and facilitate communication between tutors and teachers to coordinate the support program.
Master degree in education, mathematics or special education, is strongly preferred.
Experience with teaching Middle School students as a math learning specialist, and knowledge of mathematics content through Algebra 1, are also preferred.
