Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a 80% time Lower School Math Specialist for the 2020-21 school year. We are seeking individuals from independent, public, private, or charter schools with expertise in teaching math to elementary age students. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience with constructivist pedagogy in mathematics.
It is expected that a successful candidate would:
Support teachers in their understanding of best current practices of math teaching and learning
Make math meaningful and relevant by inspiring students
Review, revise, and plan curriculum in conjunction with the administration and members of the faculty
Communicate best practices to families through workshops and family math nights
Participate in the life of the school by attending faculty meetings, student events, etc.
Perform additional duties as requested by the Lower School Director or senior administration and participate in the life of the school

In its relatively short history, Brentwood School has grown to be one of the premier independent day schools in Southern California. Founded as a non-profit corporation in 1972, Brentwood School acquired the Brentwood Military Academy, which had existed since 1902.
Brentwood School opened in the fall of 1972 as a co-educational, college preparatory day school with grades 6-10. Grade 11 was added in fall 1973, and the school graduated its first senior class in June 1975.
