Overview: Clayton-Bradley Academy is seeking a High School Physical Science/8th Grade Math teacher to join our Upper School team. This position is responsible for teaching our "Science Reasoning 2" class that is required for all 10th grade students. The following is the course description:
"Scientific Reasoning 2 furthers the student’s investigations into scientific thought. By expanding upon themes of Scientific Reasoning I students will delve deeper into the physical sciences, discussing and formulating explanations to describe the world that surrounds them each day. Through the Scientific Practices students will expand their own personal body of knowledge and understanding of Science as a whole in pursuit of deepening scientific discourse across specializations and disciplines."
This course is designed to incorporate ideas from Biology, Chemistry, and Physics with more of an Algebraic Physics model for our students. Other courses that are associated with this position are semester based and include but not limited to Thermodynamics, Astronomy, Organic Chemistry, Circuits, Acoustics, Nuclear Chemistry, Advanced Mechanics, Material Science, etc. This position would be responsible for deciding which classes to offer and new classes to develop inside of our model.
This position would also be responsible for the 8th Grade math instruction. This instruction is considered Integrated Math 1 (a high school course) but taught to 8th grade students. There are some 8th grade specific standards that will have to be taught along with Integrated Math 1 standards. This course is an integration of 8th grade math, algebra 1, and geometry. Math is taught using the Common Core Math Standards. Integrated Math 1 course description is:
“Integrated Mathematics 1 formalizes and extends the topics of middle school mathematics. A deep understanding of linear relationships develops through building linear models to fit data, constructing and solving systems of linear equations, and contrasting linear expressions with phenomena that exhibit exponential rates of change. The course then connects algebraic and geometric ideas through algebraic proof of geometric concepts, transitioning into a study of congruence through rigid motions.”
This position will be responsible for teaching all 8th grade students and integrating math into the curriculum with a team of other content teachers. Our class sizes will max out at 20 students per class with two classes for each grade level. There will also be additional classes with some 9th grade students and potentially other math courses as this position is further acclimated into the Clayton-Bradley Academy system.
