Middle/Upper School Math
Palm Beach Day Academy
Palm Beach Day Academy, established in 1921, is an independent coeducational school, serving over 400 students from age 2 to Grade 9 on two campuses. The foundation of PBDA’s program is the education of our students in an academically challenging and compassion-rich environment that guides each child toward personal excellence of mind, body and character. At all levels, our students will be, as our mission states, challenged to excel, ?empowered to act?, and prepared to lead. The Upper Campus, which houses Grades 4-9, seeks a Mathematics teacher for the 2021-2022 school year.
Candidates should have a willingness to teach high level math classes to middle school students. Those classes include Geometry, Algebra II, Functions/Statistics/Trigonometry (FST), and Pre-Calculus. The Math Department members utilize the TI84+CE graphing calculator and its many applications (i.e. coding) as well as other math applications, including DESMOS and Geogebra. As the students participate in local math competitions, strong candidates have experience coaching or assisting a math team.
Candidates have a strong understanding of the middle school child and will bring a sense of humor, empathy, and collaboration to campus. This candidate is flexible and stays current with educational research in order to be prepared to teach the course content effectively. A strong understanding of utilizing technology as a teaching tool in our one-to-one computing environment is important. Teachers should include a variety of teaching strategies in and out of the classroom in order to be effective for all types of learners. This may include, but not limited to: hands-on learning; project-based learning; place-based learning; collaborative activities; content reading; discussion; and technology.

Strong candidates will have 5-7 years of middle or high school experience. While all applicants will hold a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Mathematics (Grades 6-12), a Master’s degree is preferred. For more information, visit our website at www.pbday.org. |
