Lakeside School, an independent 5-12 coeducational day school located in North Seattle is currently recruiting for a 3/4-time (0.75 FTE) Middle School Math Teacher, starting with the 2021-22 school year (beginning in mid to late August, 2021).
Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues that are creative and committed to seeking ways of effectively serving a diverse student body.
Commitment to providing supports, messaging, actions, and opportunities to a diverse student body who come to school with different and evolving lived experiences and levels of preparation in their previous math courses.
Teaching 3 sections of middle math classes (grade levels to be determined, but likely grades 5 and 6). Each section size is 17–18 students;
Providing academic support for students outside of class time (answering homework questions, providing extra help, etc.), as needed;
Collaborating and participating actively in the work of the Math Department on innovative curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment; (please note that the current curriculum work focuses on teaching math through an equity and inclusion lens)
Attending department and faculty meetings as scheduled;
Acting as an advisor or co-advisor to 8-12 students and serving on a grade-level team;
Participating in the life of the school community including outdoor trips, field trips, and service learning activities;
Assisting in coaching the math team (including attending occasional competitions).
Requirements: Successful candidates will have a substantial educational background in mathematics and will have a passion for mathematics and for interacting with middle school level students, in and outside of the classroom. Ideally the candidate will be someone who not only has experience teaching math to middle school students, but also enjoys and does mathematics for fun outside of teaching. The candidate should be comfortable with the full spectrum of middle school and early upper school level mathematics and have the ability to connect with a broad range of learners. The successful teacher candidate will enjoy a highly collaborative work environment that values academic rigor, innovation, and creativity.
Computer literacy on a PC platform.
Demonstrated cultural awareness, including knowledge of themselves and the cultural lenses they bring to interactions. The candidate will understand different perspectives; interact respectfully with cultures other than their own; and cultivate meaningful relationships with people that have different cultural frameworks.
Candidates must satisfactorily complete two criminal background checks.
