Mission: Waring School is a co-educational, college preparatory day school of 150 students, grades 6-12 in Beverly, MA. Waring’s mission is “To create and sustain a community of lifelong learners who are working together for the individual and common good.”
Summary: Waring School seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative teacher of mathematics who is looking to thrive in a small learning community. Depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications, the position may include teaching up to three sections of middle school and high school mathematics or high school mathematics and a computer science course. We will especially consider applicants with experience and interest in teaching upper secondary courses, such as Algebra II and Precalculus. Other responsibilities could include teaching science depending on interest and experience (see related posting). Candidates with background and interest in also teaching science, engineering, or other STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate is a life-time learner looking to thrive in a small learning community. Our classes are small where collaboration and discussion are encouraged. We seek to not only develop math skills, but also persistence and flexibility in problem solving. As Waring faculty this teacher’s role may also involve other aspects of the student experience such as Athletics, Advising (through Tutorial program), Math co-curricular activities, Experiential Learning (through our Endterm and Camping Trip programs), Robotics, Debate, Theater, and more.
Bachelor’s Degree in Math or other STEM field, or education degree with Math specialty
At least two years of teaching experience is preferred, although not a requirement for application.
Flexibility and willingness to perform non-teaching roles vital to successful school community
Familiarity with digital teaching and learning tools preferred
Percent employment to be determined by mutual agreement.
Participates in Experiential Learning aspects of our program, including Camping Trip and Endterm.
Attends co-curricular aspects of our school program, such as Faculty Meetings, All-School Meetings, and annual Program Night, as agreed upon based on FTE work percentage.
Reports to the Associate Head of School or designee
Note: Those interested in a part-time position with some of these responsibilities are encouraged to apply, since this role could potentially be shared between two part-time employees.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package included, including retirement plan with match, health, dental, vision and life insurance, and Waring 50% tuition remission for dependent children after one year of service. Paid vacation time includes winter break, spring break, and the summer.
